BEHIND THE OXFAM NAME….

March 11, 2008 by taylorcwallace

Oxfam was set up in 1942, during World War II. In towns all over the UK, groups of people collected parcels of food and clothes to send to families whose lives had been destroyed by the war. Oxfam was started by a group in Oxford, and began as the “Oxford Committee for Famine Relief” – which is where the name Oxfam came from. The group then decided to work to support people all over the world, who were suffering because of wars or for other reasons.

SKY JUICE:

March 3, 2008 by taylorcwallace

SkyJuice™ is a Foundation which started up in Sydney during 2005 as a not for profit charitable organisation. I helped with their logo and letterhead among other things a couple of years ago.

The objectives of the SkyJuice™ Foundation Inc are:

  • To assist, provide, consult and supply potable water solutions to developing communities, countries and donor organisations with a view to the immediate and medium term requirements of those individuals, communities and organisations
  • To support, assist, train and advise organisations with technical, social and other aspects for sustainable clean, safe potable water solutions
  • Foster and develop programmes to ensure the children of any country or community can have access to affordable potable water based on equitable and sustainable practices

Initial Research:

I first chose to take a look at how various community groups tackle abuse as an common social issue not just in Australia but on an international level. These were a couple of the more outstanding ones I found…

*Advocates for survivors of Child Abuse (ASCA)
To support and enable survivors over the age of 18 to overcome the effects of child abuse.

*Elder abuse prevention unit (EAPU)
To ensure that the safety and quality of life within older citizens is maintained particularly those living in Queensland.

*Benevolent society (bensoc)
To work with individuals and communities to ensure people are safe, healthy, and free of abuse within both rural and metropolitan areas.

*Mean Words
A Swedish anti bullying charity aimed at decreasing the effects of bulling within the community.

*Gegen Missbrauch
an association aimed at minimising the sexual abuse of children within Germany.

*Frauennotrufe-Hessen
attempts to counsel female abuse victims of any age.
