2020 summit – the creative direction

May 6, 2008 by taylorcwallace

Creativity is increasingly recognised and celebrated for its contribution to cultural development, economic growth and social harmony; but it’s also intrinsically good. We value our artists, film-makers, designers, authors, playwrights and performers because they entertain us, challenge us and inspire us.

Australian cultural endeavour feeds the roots of our creativity; it helps preserve and protect the storehouses of the nation’s memory; it supports and sustains our disadvantaged and marginalised communities; and it shapes and defines our shared national identity.

the possibility of micro finance

May 6, 2008 by taylorcwallace

Kimberely mentioned a couple of things on the topic of my market idea one interesting thought was the implementation of micro finance schemes.

micro-finance has evolved as a need-based policy and programme to cater to the so far neglected target groups (women, poor, rural, deprived, etc.). Its evolution is based on the concern of all developing countries for empowerment of the poor and the alleviation of poverty. Development organisations and policy makers have included access to credit for poor people as a major aspect of many poverty alleviation programmes.

This could be a way to allow the free entry to the sellers.

Taking the stregnths of bondi markets.

May 5, 2008 by taylorcwallace

The Bondi Markets are part and parcel of the local community and Bondi life. For locals, Sunday mornings means a visit to the beach, a wander through the Markets and a coffee down the road. The Bondi Markets are a place to mix it with the Bondi crowd, shop for bargains and take up the atmosphere. But they are much more than that.

The Markets provide local designers, artists and craftspeople the opportunity to sell their work direct to the public. They act as a launch pad for budding entrepreneurs and anyone working in the creative industries.

The Markets also allow local not-for-profit groups and organisations access to a free stall at the Markets to assist with revenue raising and for raising awareness.

A lot of our local residents have joined the Markets as stallholders clearing out their garages; going overseas or just spring cleaning.

The School Canteen operates on every Market Day and raises funds for the School and other local community groups by doing Sydney’s best sausage sizzle and offering light meals and cold drinks to Market visitors.

The Markets also generate revenue for the Bondi Beach Public School which uses the funds for many of its educational programs, equipment and facilities.

An even better Idea

Like an event, market or fair instead of a shop.

what I’m thinking of doing.

May 5, 2008 by taylorcwallace

So as you could start to see earlier I started touching on the idea of 2nd hand and recycled clothing I wanted to look at some kind of shop or range of shops which manages the sourcing and selling of these items for a cause I wonder how I could use this idea but in a way which was much more original.

my community project, Ideas, thoughts and first impressions

May 5, 2008 by taylorcwallace

After finishing my first community project with Sky Juice and Oxfam. I decided that I was not going to touch anything directly associated with any third world and developing countries. I just think I could take more control of somthing which I have a first hand intrest in. I first wanted to tackle the whole “cool” aspect but it was way to board and after alot of thought I decided that I shouldnt try to lable cool in any way what so ever.

Recycled clothing

May 5, 2008 by taylorcwallace

What is Recycled Clothing?

Most people are well aware of what recycled clothing is, but it is the term that they are not used to. Typically, people are well versed in hand me downs, second hand clothes, and even things that they have purchased cheaply at flea markets and yard sales. However, the newest term to describe these clothes is recycled clothing. Essentially by recycling the clothing, you are able to keep them from ending up in the landfills, or causing a potential strain in the environment.

Most people are well aware that recycled clothing is available at much cheaper rates, and if you know where to shop you can purchase them rather cheaply either by the pound or the piece. Of course, the number of people who are looking to purchase massive quantities of recycled clothing is rare, but most people are always looking for a bargain so almost all households at some point or another have recycled clothing in their home.

Whether you are looking to save money off the price of buying new clothes, avoiding the hassles of stores with long lines, or trying to give new life to clothes that would otherwise be thrown away there are numerous reasons why recycled clothing is so popular. From craft projects to actually wearing them there are so many uses that recycled clothing is given. Plus the influx of new clothes on the market each year ensures that with some patience you can find great recycled clothing at good prices, and in the style and color that you are looking for.

People used to spend days searching through the malls and department stores trying to find a price that they could afford to pay for new clothes for their families. Now by shopping around for recycled clothing, the money that was previously spent can go much further, and provide clothing for the entire family, rather than just a few people.
